Well my last weekend is over and I'm afraid it will be the last one I'll have in over a month. When we get to classification we will be confined for at least two weeks and we will be confined to the post for a month. Saturday afternoon we bad an inspection and review by the C.O. All the officers were out and it was quite an inspection. I got open post at 7 o'clock and I started out for Amarillo. A soldier is not supposed to hitch hike so we just started walking down the road. We got about two blocks and an old guy in a 42 Buick picked us up. He took us to an end of town so we took a bus for a nickel to town. First we walked around looking the place over, and then we went in and had a supper. It was a $1 special and it sure wasn't much. After supper we went to a studio but they are so busy that it would take over two weeks to get a picture. We then went to a show - some cowboy picture. After the show we had a malted and then started for home. We stood on a street corner for an hour and a half before we got a ride. A lady with two kids picked us up and brought us back. She lived in Canyon and works in a defense plant 40 miles from here. Amarillo is is kinda large. It has nine buildings that make it's skyline. It can be seen from far away since it is right in the middle of a large plain called the panhandle. We got home at 11 o'clock and stopped in for some hamburgers. I didn't get to fly Sat. morning because just as I was ready to go up they grounded us. The wind was quite high. I was in the plane with the instructor when a gust of wind caught one wing and tilted us up on the other. Some instructors ran over and pulled us down. It didn't hurt the plane any so everything was alright. Sunday I had to get up at 8 thirty to fly so I didn't get to sleep late. I got a new instructor and was charged to a new flights. They got two new instructors so they changed us all around. I didn't do anything new in flying, just the regular routine. I like my new instructor very much. He is a young chap and is about six feet two inches tall. I flew in the afternoon too, between 2 and 4 o'clock. Of course, I only flew for a 45 minute period but we stay out there two hours all the time. Sunday night I went to the show and saw Bob Hope in They've got me Covered. It was pretty funny. So that ended my last free weekend. We are supposed to fly today as usual but it is pretty cloudy so I'm afraid we'll be grounded. My next flight will be my check flight so I hope everything goes all right. I used to fly in the morning but now I'm supposed to fly between 1 and 3 in the afternoon. Well I guess that's all the news for now so I'll treat this like a clock and wind it up.
Love,
Rae
