Well another day of loafing. After chow this morning we went over to the auditorium and the captain talked to us some more. After that we came back and then were marched out on the football field to drill. They needed some men for a detail so I was drafted. Our detail fixed closets for our barracks. We just put the poles in the box. The box is 6' high and about 32" wide and 32" deep. There is a partition in the middle so your space is only 16" deep. There is a shelf on the top to put your junk and our gas mask and helmet go on top of the box. They look like this...
There are two men in each side so you really have about 16" by 16" by 6'. They are big enough for your cloths so there is no complaint. We also got a bunch of straight back chairs. One for each man. they go next to the bed and are used when studying. After we got all the boxes fixed we went out and drilled for a while. After dinner we policed the area and then were free for the afternoon. Tonight after chow I went in back of our barracks and watched the girls play tennis for a while. Then I watched some of the guys in swimming. It's an outdoor pool but has high walls around it so it looks like a building. After it got dark I went over to the day room and looked at the college year book. All we need now is our double bunks. They haven't finished the shower room yet and they haven't "picture frames" yet but they'll get them soon. I am sending my first laundry out tomorrow. They charge $1.50 a month and you can send as much as you want. I still wash my own hankies and sox. I am sending 15 pieces all together. I'm sending a khaki shirt and pants to see how much they'll shrink. I hope it's a lot so they'll fit me. I hope we get started to school soon. Well, it's time for bed so good night.
Love,
Rae
