Dear Folks
Well, I don't have my kit bag yet so I have to write on this stationary but I guess it will do. I called Eunice on the way through and she seemed quite disappointed that you weren't coming. This sure is the crazy place. There're about a thousand officers here now, bomb. and pilots. Very seldom do we see a GI. Now here's the big laugh - we have a four day schedule to complete and when that's finished we're ready to ship out. We don't get our crews here after all. Here's all we do the four days: 1st day, a lecture and nomenclature of the 45 pistol. 2nd day, fire the pistol and collect travel pay. 3rd day, Medical lectures. 4th day, altitude chamber. That is all we do at this post - no exams or nutting. Oh yes, two cholera and three Typhus shots. I've got three to go yet. That Typhus shot sure makes your arm sore.
The base is OK and the food is alright. We are not quarantined but can't leave the post until 5 PM and have to be back by 1 AM. No Sundays off either. The only thing I'm worrying about now is that Ed and I stay together when we leave here. We can leave here any time after next Friday. It's been cold and raining ever since we've been here. Sure hope it warms up.
Say, how is pa's cold and yours' too? I think you both better start taking pills or something. How's the apartment deal coming along? I sure hope you get that one near Unk's. Say pa, what did the boss say about your weeks vacation? Well, I guess I better close for now -
Love,
Rae
