Wednesday March 31, 1943

After chow this morning we drilled for about two and a half hours then we rested for an hour and went to lunch. After lunch they moved 16 of us to the downstairs gym. Jack and I were in the 16. After the change there were 112 downstairs and 143 upstairs. Then they told us we were confined to our gym for the afternoon but before they told us this we fell out and a list of names was read, mine included. About 3 o'clock the Leut. came in and talked to us. After that we were free for the rest of the afternoon. I wrote letters trying to catch up. I got caught up and then I got four letters tonight, nuts. Well after chow tonight we had mail call and now I'm writing again. I'm going to take a shower tonight and maybe go to town tomorrow and buy some toilet articles. The Leut. said we'd get paid tomorrow. I'm sleeping on a upper bunk now that I'm in the lower gym. At least I have a mattress and spring. The boys that left went to Iowa and Tenn. Well, that's about all I can say except I don't think I'll have to go on a thirty mile hike tomorrow.

Love,
Rae

P.S I got a letter from you tonight telling about the dog you had.
