I've been on the go constantly since 4 o'clock this morning. They work guard duty differently than Sheppard Field. You are on for only 2 hours except the sixth relief, they bunk in the guard house and act as a reserve. I was on the sixth relief. I went on post at 4 AM and came off at 6 AM. After breakfast we had to GI the guard house and clean all the rifles. Then we came off duty at about 9:30 AM and went out to drill. Right after drill we went to chow and then we saw a show after chow. After the show we had a hour off and then we went to PT. From PT we stood retreat and after supper we drilled again. Right now I should be GIing. I have to get up at 3:45 in the morning and go on KP or MM (Mess Management). Yesterday we had rifle drill and we cleaned rifles. We also had a lecture on interior guard duty. Boy is my face sunburned. My neck is sore around the collar. I got it while cleaning my fatigues yesterday. I also got some of it Tues on the hike. We went on a 3 one half mile hike and had gas attacks on the way. I think I told you about it already. I went through the gas chamber again. We get classified Sat. and next Wed. we get our Cadet clothes. This Sunday we will be able to explore the post. Our area quarantine is over then. I got two letters from you today and one from Bud. I am so busy I don't have time to write at all. I'll try and answer some questions.

I only weight 160 lbs and the food is sloppy. I don't mind it here because I'm finally on the way to my wings. The first time I'll be able to get off the post will be July 10. Santa Ana is only about 2 miles from the post, and I'll look up Mrs? Miss? Erstad - Great Aunt, isn't she? You can see a long range of Mnt. from here on clear days. Well, I guess that's all of the questions. Em told me that Robin was getting a furlough, is that right?

I have to laugh at your letters about Barb and Bev. I imagine you were quite surprised when Son had his own ideas. You people never think of that. I'll bet Son had a date every night he was home. You know the old saying about "it's the uniform not the man." Well, I've found that out since I've been in the army and I'm nothing but a Pvt. It seems that girls will do anything to go out with a uniform. At Canyon all you had to do was call up a girl that you had never seen and when you said you were a soldier she would say yes immediately. Sonny did all right when he was a civilian so there's no reason why he should have any trouble now. Did he go to Prude or not? I'll bet you were all glad to see him! I wish I were there to greet him. How was his uniform? How was his posture and was he changed much? Well, I guess you'll get this after he's gone so you'll be able to answer all my questions and there are a lot that popped out, aren't there? I've got to get going now on the floor so I'll say good night.

Love,
Rae
